India, Laos unveil world’s first stamp depicting Ram Lalla of Ayodhya during Jaishankar’s visit | India News


NEW DELHI: During external affairs minister S Jaishankar‘s visit to Laos, a special commemorative postage stamp set featuring Lord Ram of Ayodhya was jointly released by Laos and India. The stamp set released today holds the distinction of being the first stamp in the world to feature Ram Lalla of Ayodhya.
The stamp set consists of two stamps, one depicting Lord Buddha of Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos, and the other featuring Lord Ram of Ayodhya, the sacred capital city of Lord Ram.
The stamps showcase the shared cultural heritage of Ramayana and Buddhism between the two nations.
Jaishankar, who is attending Asean mechanism meetings in Laos, announced the launch of the special postage stamp set. He was joined by Saleumxay Kommasith, the deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister of Lao PDR.
Jaishankar expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and witnessed the exchange of MoUs on 10 Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) for Laos under the Mekong Ganga Cooperation and cooperation in sharing successful Digital Solutions.

Buddhism has for long been a connecting force between India and Lao PDR. The Lao version of Ramayana, known as Ramakien or the Story of Phra Lak Phra Ram, is highly revered in Laos and performed on auspicious occasions. The theme of the stamp set is “Celebrating shared cultural heritage of Lao PDR and India”.
During his three-day visit to Vientiane, Jaishankar also called on the Prime Minister of Laos and raised the issue of trafficking of Indian nationals through cyber scam centers. He appreciated the ongoing cooperation of the Lao PDR government in the rescue and relief of Indian citizens. Jaishankar also discussed the matter with the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand.
